Build your own guitar pedal! Clear instructions manual how components are mounted on the board and how the board connects with jacks and switches. All parts included in this kit. Also drilled metal box, solder and wires.Mushroom Echo kit or Mushroom Eye Delay kit is a delay pedal that can be controlled optically. The twisted and fun tones that you often get when you turn the Interval knob on a pedal like this can be adjusted by varying the light flow to a sensor in one corner of the pedal. You can get pitch-bent echo or just light chorus, all depending on how you set the knobs and how you vary the light to the sensor.
This demo is from 2009 but the idea is the same.

Basically, Mushroom Echo is a PT2399-based delay with knobs that control Mix, Interval oh Repeats. Interval controls how long time it is between the repetitions, Repeats how long they last and Mix the balance between clean and effect sound. With Repeats in zero, you get exactly one repetition. Mushroom has an 100k Interval pot, which is actually more than what the chip is designed for. But it only expands the range and with lower settings the repetitions are distortion free. The Interval knob also works as a sensitivity knob for the light sensor and with Interval in max it is possible to get completely twisted tones that are far beyond the guitar’s normal spectrum.
The pedal has an extra foot switch that can quickly turn off the sensor function. Then the pedal works as a “regular” delay with Mix, Interval and Repeats.
If you build it with the first suggested component values, you get a pedal that drops a little treble for each bounce. This is to mimic band echo who often have this feature. You can easily make the repetitions sound sharper by changing a capacitor at a certain place in the circuit. This mod also makes the repeats last longer when Repeats is in max. Maybe add a toggle switch here that changes the tone of the repeats?
You can also mod it so that the repetition time increases in strength for each repetition. Such a mod in combination with the optical mode gives you a pedal that you do not even need an instrument to create chaotic music with! The manual describes how the mods are made and the kit’s mod bag contains a couple of extra components for those who want to work with this.
So Mushroom is an experimental and fun circuit with innovative tones in optical mode. And in traditional mode, you have a good-sounding echo pedal with a classic sound.
Mushroom is powered with a 9v power supply with standard polarity ("center negative"), no battery. Power supply is not included.
