Description
This great looking, playing, and sounding 40 year old guitar is from my personal collection. I purchased it in 2011 (used). It was made in Fullerton, California, USA. Serial number E204430. It weighs in at 8lbs 10oz.
The custom color (sapphire blue) was only used one year.
The guitar has a maple neck, small headstock with the 70's logo, F tuners, 4 bolt neck pattern, five way switch, one volume control, 2 tone controls, and an angled input jack on the guitar face.
It is the real deal, 3 knob "Dan Smith" 1982 Fender Standard Stratocaster.
It has noticeable fret wear (see photos), but it's very playable across the entire fretboard, with lots of life left in the frets.
There are a number of chips and scratches on the back and edges of the guitar. The 2 largest on the back are about 1/8" and 1/4" in diameter respectively. The bottom edge near the lower tone control has a scrape of about 1" by 1/8" that partly penetrates the stain.
The guitar face is in very good shape, with 3 or 4 tiny nicks that are only visible if you are real close and scrutinizing the guitar.
The neck has a C profile with a radius of 7.25", 21 frets, and is in excellent shape (no dents anywhere, back or fretboard).
All the electronics works as they should. No pops, static, or scratching when the volume and tone controls are used. The guitar's tones are awesome.
It comes with a Fender hard shell case. The case has some dings and scrapes, but is solid and in overall good condition. One latch sticks, but opens easily when coaxed by a finger nail.
These guitars pre date the Fender Custom Shop by 5 years, and were Fender's best efforts at the time.
To my knowledge, this guitar has all the original parts that came with it when new, with the following exceptions:
replaced the tuner for the 1st (E) string with a vintage re-issue 70's F tuner (fender part # 0990822100, which is an identical match). Original tuner is in the case, and still works, but was too loose for my liking.
replaced 3/8" bridge saddle screws with Fender 5/16" ones for strings 2,3,4, and 5. Original saddle screws are in the case.
replaced all pick guard, jack plate, and tremolo back cover screws with genuine Fender screws. When I received the guitar they were non Fender stainless steel screws. The non Fender stainless steel screws are in the case.
replaced the tremolo anchor plate screws with stainless steel screws. Original (stripped) screws are in the case.
an extra tremolo spring has been installed, to lock the tremolo down to the body (I prefer hardtails). The extra tremolo spring can be easily removed, to restore the tremolo action to what it was when it left the factory.
